What educators are saying

This was just the challenge I was looking for to help my students master equivalent fractions on a ruler. Thank you!

Description

Fractions of an Inch: Finding and Comparing Fractions on a Ruler
These worksheets align with CCSS 3.NF.2, CCSS 3.NF.3, and CCSS 3.MD.4.

Great real-world application of fractions!

Students will be required to identify the common fractions of an inch (half through sixteenth), add varying distances together, reason about size, and subtract fractions on a number line.
Fun graphics and story problems will engage students, and the questions will require them to apply their knowledge of fractions to new authentic situations.

This packet requires more knowledge of fractions than my other packet, Fractions on a Number Line. It is not intended to be used as an introduction to fractions on a number line, but rather as an extension activity.

This packet is designed to gradually increase in difficulty, critical thinking skills, and fractional knowledge.

This packet would be great for guided math, math center activities, review for upper grades, math rotations, or quick assessments.

Answer keys are included!

Thank you for downloading and providing honest feedback!

Generate measurement data by measuring lengths using rulers marked with halves and fourths of an inch. Show the data by making a line plot, where the horizontal scale is marked off in appropriate units-whole numbers, halves, or quarters.
Understand a fraction as a number on the number line; represent fractions on a number line diagram.
Explain equivalence of fractions in special cases, and compare fractions by reasoning about their size.
