What educators are saying

This has been great for introducing fraction skills to my students! I have used this for every fraction skill so far.
This is a concept that can be a little challenging for students. These slides made practicing this skill fun. Since there are quite a few slides, I was able to separate them into a few different "assignments" for them to practice the skill throughout the week. I highly recommend this product.

Description

Are you searching for a step-by-step PowerPoint that can be used to introduce fraction concepts to your 4th grade students in a way that will grab their attention? You've come to the right place! This 77-slide PowerPoint will introduce your students to many of the fraction skills identified in the 4th Grade Common Core State Standards. It covers adding and subtracting fractions and mixed numbers, decomposing fractions, multiplying fractions, converting improper fractions to mixed numbers, and converting fractions to decimals. Each section includes many practice problems. Plus, this resource comes with a bonus set of exit tickets!

PowerPoints filled with visuals are ideal for teaching new content to students because PowerPoints tend to be highly engaging and concepts can be easily broken down into understandable chunks of information. But let's face it... they are so time-consuming to create! Fortunately, now you have an option of using one that is already complete, kid-tested, and ready to go for you!

This PowerPoint is designed to be used over the course of 5 days. Each day, use this PowerPoint to introduce a different fraction concept. The PowerPoint begins with a brief review of the terms "numerator" and "denominator". After the introduction section, there are five main sections to the PowerPoint:

  1. Adding and Subtracting Fractions
  2. Adding and Subtracting Mixed Numbers
  3. Decomposing Fractions
  4. Multiplying Fractions (this section includes slides on improper fractions and converting them to mixed numbers)
  5. Decimals and Fractions- Conversions, Adding, & Comparing

Each section contains MANY practice opportunities!

This PowerPoint contains TWO EXTRA BONUS FEATURES!!

  1. A PowerPoint companion handout is included in this file. As you advance through the PowerPoint, students can record their answers on the handout. The companion handout is available in both printable format or digital format. The digital version is compatible with Google Slides.
  2. After each section of the PowerPoint, hand out a half-sheet exit slip and have students complete it independently. When you correct the exit slips, you are presented with immediate feedback on which students might need additional small group or individual instruction. The exit tickets are available in both printable format or digital format, as well.

Understand a fraction 𝘢/𝘣 with 𝘢 > 1 as a sum of fractions 1/𝘣.
Understand addition and subtraction of fractions as joining and separating parts referring to the same whole.
Decompose a fraction into a sum of fractions with the same denominator in more than one way, recording each decomposition by an equation. Justify decompositions, e.g., by using a visual fraction model. Examples: 3/8 = 1/8 + 1/8 + 1/8; 3/8 = 1/8 + 2/8; 2 1/8 = 1 + 1 + 1/8 = 8/8 + 8/8 + 1/8.
Add and subtract mixed numbers with like denominators, e.g., by replacing each mixed number with an equivalent fraction, and/or by using properties of operations and the relationship between addition and subtraction.
Solve word problems involving addition and subtraction of fractions referring to the same whole and having like denominators, e.g., by using visual fraction models and equations to represent the problem.
