There’s so much jammed pack into this unit, you wouldn’t believe it - even after you see it.

8 page test (19 multiple choice & 1 constructed response) + student answer sheets - All questions are Common Core aligned with plenty of textual evidence. (multiple choice answer key included)

BONUS ITEMS: Quotes on indifference (great to use an a simple enrichment activity in which students design awareness posters)

Creative project with rubric. This project was created with the PARCC Narrative writing task in mind. For this project, students assume Anne Frank had access to paper and something to write with during her time at Bergen-Belsen. There was a phase when Anne & Margot Frank were in the same section as The Blumenthals, therefore this activity requires students to make connections between Four Perfect Pebbles and Anne Frank’s diary.

BONUS ITEM: 2 short articles and cold-read quizzes (great to use as study guides or enrichment)

    Enrichment Activities:

Glogster Research Project – This Product includes nearly 100 sources related to 40 WWII-specific topics. Additionally, you are provided 40 topic cards (organized with tips for including key information and a list of at least 3 reference sources – book, encyclopedia, and website), students print-out to record notes during presentations, student directions and a rubric, and 40 topic summary cards. The information gathered in student research is organized within a poster (using Glogster)

WWII Connect 4 Game – Coordinates well with the Glogster Research Project Kit. With this game, students recall information learned from 40 WWII and Holocaust specific topics. This product includes 2 sets of team cards, 40 game play cards, student note print-out, and answer cards.

Primary and Secondary Source Activities – This product includes over 50 sources connected to WWII and The Holocaust which can be used individually or in rotation sets. Package includes pointers for arranging and organizing several lessons.

Pre-Reading Activity – NOTE: I used this activity for a Compass Evaluation and received a Highly Effective rating as a result.

Though this lesson was designed to coordinate with Four Perfect Pebbles, it works as a great introduction to any unit on the Holocaust.

In this activity, students rotate to 4 stations in which they will obtain background knowledge on 5 key concepts necessary for understanding the events and people of the Holocaust. Concepts are: background on Concentration Camps (done as a whole-group), Hitler’s Rise to Power, Anne Frank, a veteran’s accounts of liberating Bergen-Belsen, and a survivor’s accounts of death trains). After absorbing the information provided, students select a higher order thinking question slip at random (each station has 4 HOT questions which allow students to respond to the information on a deeper, more meaningful way). Reflection slips are glued to a response sheet and discussed as a group though responses are individual.

Propaganda Activity – This product includes 80 various printable examples of propaganda during World War II (Nazi and U.S.), 2 articles each of which include quizzes and reflection questions. These sources are used in a four separate stations which focus on the analysis of wartime persuasion techniques (quiz, rhetoric triangles, or written reflection)

Psychological Studies Activity – Students delve into reasons why the Holocaust (or any genocide) occurred through a study into psychological studies and theories. This product includes an article on The Milgram Experiments, a video on the Stafford Prison Study, real accounts of Upstanders and Bystanders during Nazi Persecution, and an personal reflective article on other psychological findings that drive positive and negative behavior. Activities for these stations include group discussions, a quiz, organized note taking, and writing prompts.

Genocide Infographic Activity – Students are assigned 1 of 12 genocides (historical or present-day). Sources are provided for research, with which students will design an infographic awareness poster using a user-friendly online program

Holocaust and Forgiveness Cooperative Group Activity – Students reflect on the struggles and triumphs of forgiveness through a variety of videos and articles. Stations (four in all) include: a video and article on Eva Kor (a Mengele twin and her experiences as Dr. Mengele’s human experiment, its effects, and her decision to forgive and the process she underwent. A video account from WWII solider, Joseph Robertson regarding the struggles of self-forgiveness and the trauma of battle. Lastly, students will read about the requirements for forgiveness in the Jewish faith. In these stations, students will take mini-quizzes, record details of a survivor’s account, self-reflect on personal requirements for forgiveness, and complete a rhetoric triangle. Bundle includes all necessary handouts, articles, and videos, as well as a PowerPoint with working timers and cooperative group markers.
