Fountas and Pinnell Comprehension Cards

Build your students' comprehension using these question stems based on the Fountas and Pinnell System. There are 2 sets of cards, both fiction and non-fiction. Each set contains questions for questions within the text, beyond the text and about the text.

IN MY CLASSROOM I have laminated these question stem cards and put them on a binder ring. When reading a shared text I will choose a strategy (within, beyond or about) and use the question stem as a prompt to ask students a question. I also use them when I am planning comprehension questions for students' book to ensure I have covered the three types of questions. In my guided reading rotations I have given students a copy of the question rubric to my higher students and they must answer 2 questions from each section about their book.

There are blank cards which you could write your own questions on.
