    Description

This is a bundle that contains 45 slide animated power point with excellent animations that will show your classroom everything they need to become proficient with their knowledge of this standard covering Earth’s natural renewable and nonrenewable resources particularly focusing on fossil fuels and alternative energy sources. This product also contains a student note-taker for students to follow along this lesson with and answer the 8 question assessment at the end of the power point that you can take for a quick grade or use as a practice review. The power point comes in two different versions (one with an answer key at the end including on the quiz for immediate feedback and one with no answer key for you to take a grade on if you need one!)

Students will take notes on their student note-taker that goes along with the animated power point included in this product. This power point covers the three main fossil fuels: coal, oil and natural gas and briefly covers the harmful impact they may be having on our environment as the release excess greenhouse gases into our environment.

Then they will learn about all of the main types of alternative energy sources including solar energy, wind energy, hydroelectric energy, geothermal energy, biomass / biofuel, nuclear energy, wave energy, tidal energy and hydrogen energy. This is a no prep power point and student note-taker that you can use in your classroom today covering a topic that every upper elementary and middle school student should learn about as our resource reserve of fossil fuels are quickly being depleted and we are growing ever dependent on alternative energy sources.

Also included in this bundle pack is a printable packet that requires no prep on your part and includes 10 printable worksheet pages for your students to work on as an independent work packet or as enrichment for your class covering the topics of fossil fuels, greenhouse gases and alternative energy sources (heavy focus on the latter). All of the major alternative energy sources are covered in this printable packet including biomass, biofuel, wind energy, solar energy, hydroelectric energy, geothermal energy, nuclear energy, wave energy, tidal energy, and hydrogen energy.

Included worksheet pages in this printable pack are:

    - Fossil Fuels: reading comprehension worksheet

    - Greenhouse Gases: reading comprehension worksheet

    - Biomass/Biofuel: think and respond (half) worksheet

    - Wind Energy Then and Now: think and respond (half) worksheet

    - Solar energy (half) worksheet

    - Water and Hydroelectric Energy (half) worksheet

    - Geothermal Energy (half) worksheet

    - Nuclear Energy (half) worksheet

    - Wave and Tidal Energy (half) worksheet

    - Hydrogen Energy (half) worksheet

    - Alternative Energy Sources: Wind and Hydroelectric (enrichment) think and respond

    - Alternative Energy Sources: Geothermal and Nuclear (enrichment) think and respond

    - Natural Resources Sort – fossil fuels vs. alternative energy sources cut and paste activity

    - Recycle, Reuse and Reduce Sort: cut and paste activity

All answer keys are included as well, making this no prep printable packet very easy to incorporate into your classroom and obtaining extra grades from these resources. These two resources are available to bundle together to save you time, energy and money. Enjoy!

I know you and your students will love this product, and they will I guarantee it!

    NGSSMS-ESS3-5
Ask questions to clarify evidence of the factors that have caused the rise in global temperatures over the past century. Examples of factors include human activities (such as fossil fuel combustion, cement production, and agricultural activity) and natural processes (such as changes in incoming solar radiation or volcanic activity). Examples of evidence can include tables, graphs, and maps of global and regional temperatures, atmospheric levels of gases such as carbon dioxide and methane, and the rates of human activities. Emphasis is on the major role that human activities play in causing the rise in global temperatures.
    NGSSMS-ESS3-3
Apply scientific principles to design a method for monitoring and minimizing a human impact on the environment. Examples of the design process include examining human environmental impacts, assessing the kinds of solutions that are feasible, and designing and evaluating solutions that could reduce that impact. Examples of human impacts can include water usage (such as the withdrawal of water from streams and aquifers or the construction of dams and levees), land usage (such as urban development, agriculture, or the removal of wetlands), and pollution (such as of the air, water, or land).
    NGSS4-ESS3-1
Obtain and combine information to describe that energy and fuels are derived from natural resources and that their uses affect the environment. Examples of renewable energy resources could include wind energy, water behind dams, and sunlight; non-renewable energy resources are fossil fuels and fissile materials. Examples of environmental effects could include loss of habitat due to dams, loss of habitat due to surface mining, and air pollution from burning of fossil fuels.
