What educators are saying

I modified this resource a bit to fit the needs of my GT 5th graders as a culminating activity for our forensics unit. Some great stories came out of this resource!

Description

What if the Seven Dwarves used toxicology to determine the poison that harmed Snow White? Prince Charming could have saved himself a lot of time by running tests on blood left in the glass slipper. And a simple fingerprint scan might have given Rumplestiltskin's true identity without all the guesswork...

In this project from I Heart Teaching Science, all of these and more are possible as students write forensic fairy tales! A forensic fairy tale is a classic fairy tale with a forensic twist. This is the perfect review activity for a short forensic science unit in a life science or chemistry classroom or a culminating activity in a forensic science class. Students are asked to identify potential evidence and tests that could be run on that evidence. Students take their writing through 2 rounds of peer editing before turning in their completed fairy tales.

This is a great way to incorporate literacy and creativity into a science classroom, and the freedom in the assignment allows for more student choice, leading to higher engagement.

This packet includes the following:
-A teaching guide with a sample schedule and descriptions of each worksheet
-An assignment overview with space for you to write in your own due dates
-A brainstorming sheet and a planning sheet to help your students with their writing
-2 different peer editing worksheets
-A rubric for grading
All documents are in .pdf format.
