I like to kick off my Day of the Dead unit with this video: Food for the Ancestors every year! The documentary weaves in the ceremonies, traditions, pottery, symbols, native plants and foods all seen on the colorful streets of Puebla during this celebration. Students will watch the Voladores performance, eating ant eggs, visiting grave sites and more! For students, I have put together this resource that goes with the video. The questions work great to keep students actively watching the video. How I use this resource: I tell the students to keep the worksheet as a study guide because the information will be on their next test or quiz. Or you could collect it for points. The questions are in order. Questions are written in English, 30 Questions total. Great for a change of pace or sub plan!
