What educators are saying

This was such a fun end of the year project! The students enjoyed designing their food truck. Assembling them took my third graders quick a long time, but it was our only activity for the day.
One of the best projects I've done! By far a favorite of the students. I was able to include social studies into it as well.

Description

This project based learning activity incorporates engineering, art, geometry, decimals, addition, and subtraction. Students design and construct a paper food truck and then run it using "Guest Checks" to take customer orders and calculate change.

This resource includes:

  • teacher directions
  • student directions (with photos of each step)
  • all templates to construct the food truck, counter, oven, refrigerator, and trash can
  • 4 guest checks to take orders and calculate change
  • scoring rubric
  • finished example
  • pictures of completed food trucks for ideas and inspiration

Project overview:

  1. construct a paper food truck complete with interior counter, oven, refrigerator and a trash can plus any other details (everything made out of paper)
  2. attach the food truck to a small piece of poster board, card board, or construction paper and decorate the base to show where the food truck is located (the beach, the park, a city street corner, etc.)
  3. include a menu with at least 5 menu items and their prices
  4. complete 4 "Guest Checks," totaling up how much each customer owes and determining how much change they will get back

This project is incredibly fun and deceptively educational! Be sure to display your completed food trucks for others to enjoy!
