Description

Over the years, I have asked my students their opinion of social studies, and all I have heard is moans and groans. The harsh truth is that many students, especially elementary students dislike social studies. The question we need to ask ourselves is: "Why?".

I believe the answer lies not in the content, but in the delivery.

There are many ways to approach the social studies curriculum. Over the years I have approached social studies from a variety of ways; sometimes successful but other times not so successful. Then I was challenged to dig deeper and to find out what the research says. The result is the discourse that follows.

This research study reveals the best practice of how to teach social studies. It is grounded in research from the NCSS and provides useful strategies to better enhance your current curriculum.

Since conducting this study, I have applied the principles within my classroom and have seen great results in student engagement and understanding of social studies concepts.

Access to my research is sure to give a new perspective on teaching social studies AND a practical approach to applying these ideas in your classroom...no matter what the grade level!
