Fluency Practice: Short I

Fluency is an essential component of every student's reading development. This SimplyFirst fluency practice pack offers multiple resources to use in your guided reading practice to help build your student's fluency! There are CVC, CCVC, CVCC and CCVCC word variations depending on your student's reading level and/or to help them progress in their reading fluency & decoding skills!

Included in this guided reading /SHORT I/ fluency practice pack:

• Flash Cards - Each word can be cut out to save for added practice. They can be used in several different formats other than flash cards: small group work, board games, scavenger hunts, word rings, etc.

• Sound Sheets - These sheets help students practice recognizing and visualizing the sound picture/spelling variation of each vowel sound to help them become more fluent readers.

• Fluency Builders - As children read through the text, the sentences 'build' upon themselves as one additional word is added to each line. This format naturally enhances fluency.

• Roll & Read Sentences - a fun, interactive and engaging way to practice reading!

• Fluency Passages - Passages that help students monitor their fluency progress by giving them the opportunity to practice reading the same passage a few times, also called "repeated reading". They can also be used for homework or in your classroom at a fluency center for those students who are trying to improve or just maintain their fluency growth.

• Comprehension Checks - The same passages included in the fluency passage, with a twist! Instead of repeated reading, students will have the opportunity to answer 4 questions about the passage to check their understanding of what they just read.

This fluency practice pack will work with any reading program. The resources are great for small groups, centers, buddy reading, and homework practice. Parents and volunteers find them easy to use too!
