✢ The Experiments included in this sink or float activity pack:

  • "The Great Ball Challenge” - a floating & sinking activity involving different balls with matching worksheets.
  • "The Orange Test” - testing an unpeeled and peeled orange, 3 differentiated worksheets choose the appropriate level for your children, plus experiment instruction sheet and a simple explanation of density.
  • "Can you Make a Boat that Floats” - STEM activity 2 differentiated worksheets to choose the appropriate level for your class. Includes draw your boat with labels or without, list materials or draw materials, and a what happened box.
  • "The Boat Challenge” - Using foil or play dough, create a boat, test your boat with weights, compare and then scrunch foil into a ball and test. 2 differentiated versions of the worksheet choose the appropriate level for your children plus experiment instruction sheet.


✢ The Floating and Sinking Sort Station:

The station activity includes display title, labels and sink & float definitions. There are also 3 differentiated checklists that come in 9 different themes with a cut and paste worksheet for each theme. There is also a blank version for each checklist to add your own items. 

The 9 themes are:

  • School supplies: highlighter, eraser, pencil, scissors, bingo dabber, marker, crayon
  • Math equipment: ruler, paper clip, bear, block, math cubes, shapes - a triangle and a square
  • Nature: seed, stick, flower, leaf, rock, feather,
  • Kitchen items: plate, cup, spoon, fork, knife, bowl, spatula
  • Containers: jar, box, drink bottle, lid, can, milk carton, cup
  • Food: apple, egg, onion, potato, tomato, carrot
  • Toys: block, car, rubber duck, boat, ball, doll
  • Balls: balloon, tennis ball, basketball, bouncy ball, golf ball, beach ball,
  • Random items: button, die, counter, a ball of playdough, block, pencil sharpener
  • Household items: key, peg, coin, screw, nail, paper roll (ie toilet or paper towel), box
  • Shapes: circle, rectangle, square, hexagon, pentagon, oval
