Description

Could you be a Real-Life Flat Stanley? Be a Real-Life Flat Stanley Math and Writing Unit is an interesting and fun Common Core Standard-aligned informational reading, math, and writing activity that can be completed in connection with the reading of the Flat Stanley novel by Jeff Brown, or independent of the novel as a stand-alone activity. This download contains both a printable format as well as a Google Drive™ compatible format.

This download (both printable and Google Drive™ format) contains:

  • A true informational article about real children who were sent through the postal mail as a method of travel in the early 1900s.
  • Student activity where they will calculate the cost to send themselves to a travel destination via postal mail, by car, by Amtrak, and by airplane. Students will be asked to compare their findings and complete a writing activity.
  • Teacher directions for the activity.
  • Listing of popular US travel destination zip codes.
  • Teacher/Student Guide for the USPS.com website.
  • Teacher/Student Guide for the Amtrak.com website.
  • Common Core Standard Alignment Checklists for grades 2-4.

♦Please note this activity is included in my Flat Stanley Novel Study Book Unit which is also available here in my store. You can find all of these activities in both printable and Google Drive formats along with comprehension, vocabulary, writing activities, assessments, teacher plans, and Common Core Standard alignment.
