Description

These slides can be used to introduce what a "flashback" is in literature. The definition of a flashback is provided, as well as the reasons why authors might use flashbacks in their stories.

These lesson slides include four scenes of flashbacks from popular movies:

  • Ratatouille
  • Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone
  • Up
  • Toy Story 2

Each video clip is followed by an explanation of why the author used the flashback (to give insight into why the character acts a certain way, to show how a character's personality [and identity] were shaped, etc.).
