What educators are saying

Very nice format, with a wealth of information here. Engaging format that promotes students to think critically and support their opinions with evidence from texts. I will definitely use this again.
My students absolutely love these, and this was an awesome activity for learning more about the first Thanksgiving! Great combination of texts and imagery for students. I used the letter writing activity as a homework assignment. Thanks!

Description

Learn about the first Thanksgiving, the Pilgrims and Mayflower Voyage, the Plymouth Colony, and the Wampanoag Native Americans! Your students will explore theories about the history of the first Thanksgiving with this engaging crime scene investigation activity that encourages critical thinking!

A visually engaging case file is provided with comprehensive background readings on the history of Thanksgiving, the Plymouth Colony, and more. Students will then consider the historical evidence for the first Thanksgiving, and consider whether the popular story incorporates Native American perspectives. Student detectives will encounter non-fiction background information, a primary source account, and much more while taking detective notes on what they learn. They will then answer the reading comprehension response questions, complete a timeline activity, and draw and support their own hypothesis about the mystery of the first Thanksgiving! Two bonus writing extension activities included as well!

This investigation activity can be used as a printable packet activity, or as an engaging stations classroom activity with groups! Teacher and student notes are provided, along with an answer key for the background reading comprehension activity.

This activity is provided in both ready-to-print color and black and white versions.

This resource makes learning about Thanksgiving highly engaging and is a great supplement, introduction, or reinforcement activity to any lesson! Students will leave the lesson with an understanding of the cultural significance and history of Thanksgiving.
