Description
Get your students engaged in calculating slopes as they become Slope Doctors! Students observe real world relations (which are their “patients”) and determine slopes!
Students examine 12 real world examples, including graphs, tables, and stories. For each one, they determine:
- the type of slopes (positive, negative, zero, or undefined)
- the exact slope by finding the change in y over the change in x
- the real world meaning
This resource is provided in a printable version and in a digital version through Google Forms for distance learning. The 12 real world slope examples are also provided as a PowerPoint, which could be displayed in class for discussions.
Some examples are simple, and some are challenging!
Students can work through this activity individually, in partners, or groups. The examples are great math discussion starters.
Answer keys are included.
Grab this activity for a fun day of finding slope!
