Based on a true story, Remember the Titans is a coming of age story of a local football team and how it brings a divided community together. With its accurate depiction of the struggle to integrate during the post-Brown v. Board era, Remember the Titans pays homage to principles of segregation and discrimination that is very much relevant today.

Using the film as a means to raise awareness, communicate, and educate concepts that is essential to understanding Black History month, we have compiled a product you can use in your classroom to help supplement your Black History month curriculum.

* Time-stamps to help the students keep track of their viewing experience and answer questions accordingly.

The package includes:

1) Key Vocabulary section broken down into mini-lessons of their own.

Tapping into prior knowledge and front-loading terms such as : segregation, discrimination, integration Greensboro sit-in, Brown vs. Board, Montgomery Bus Boycott, and more. Can just use it to decorate your Black History Month Bulletin Board.

2) Comprehension Questions for the entire movie in 2 formats: one with more support such as sentence frames and dictations(ESL); the other with minimal support. Answer keys included. Just print and distribute.

3) Discussion Questions for each viewing section of the film that advocates C.C.S.S. aligned standards. Questions that ask students to dig deeper and draw connections between the text and actual events in history (i.e. Montgomery Bus Boycotts). Though the questions are open-ended, still come with a rough "potential" answers-key.

We teach 4th grade, so we've provided the standards that align with 4th grade C.C.S.S. standards. However, the same standards would apply and be addressed in upper grades. The depth of responses, and thoughts would vary.
