What educators are saying

My 5th grade library students loved getting into groups and presenting/discussing these. They allowed an opportunity for all students to read/be involved. We enjoyed working with figurative language in an alternative way as well.

Description

This reading comprehension passages packet with readers' theater scripts are great for a third, fourth, or fifth grade to practice acting out plays while learning to recognize different styles of figurative language in written text. This practice packet can be used for an assessment grade, review, or for other activities with kids. Once the reader's theater plays (worksheets) are read and completed, each of the four plays contains comprehension questions that can be used as a grade.

These passages work well with 4th and 5th-grade students to practice common reading skills and writing styles of a drama (play). Students sometimes struggle to identify different figurative language styles. Inside each play are many examples of different figurative language styles.

The four plays focus on two styles each to increase student understanding. The figurative language styles added to the plays are:

❀ Simile

❀ Metaphor

❀ Idioms

❀ Onomatopoeia

❀ Oxymoron

❀ Personification

❀ Alliteration

❀ Hyperbole
