What educators are saying

My kids loved this and frequently burst into song during class. It was a fun day, and they got to practice figurative language as well. WIN WIN!
My students really seemed to enjoy doing this activity. For extra credit, I offered them the opportunity to choose their own song and find the figurative language.

Description

Grammar and vocabulary review doesn't have to be boring and monotonous! Get kids up and moving with this print and go, classroom-tested interactive game for reviewing figurative language that comes in printable task card format and an interactive digital format.

Student Experience: Students will learn with movement as they review figurative language. Give students one or more cards, and they will identify and explain what type of figurative language is being used in the song lyric. Examples are taken from a variety of popular songs. I've now included a digital version of the activity that students can use right in Google on their devices. The activity could be used as task cards, small groups games, large group interactive sorting activity, literacy center lessons, gallery walks, scavenger hunts, question trails, bell ringers, exit tickets, distance learning practice, online classrooms review, and more.

Included:

  • Short mini lesson
  • 30 examples for practice
  • Matching room labels
  • Instructions for play and extension
  • Answer key (also includes an at-a-glance answer key via a QR code)
  • 100% editable PPT file (cut and go task cards) and interactive digital version for Google

*The terms include simile, metaphor, hyperbole, idiom, puns, personification, allusion, and I included some alliteration examples.
