Description
Figurative Language Treasure Hunt - Use With ANY Text (Updated with a digital option for distance learning!)
A fun close-reading activity for upper elementary and middle school students.
Reading literature and informational texts activity: Students will search for figurative language devices in context as they read. Any text that contains similes, metaphors, personification, hyperboles, idioms, oxymorons, and ANY devices you choose will work.
Language/Vocabulary activity: Students will create their own treasure hunt for a partner or classmate. Students will have to give clues for the devices using techniques such as synonyms and antonyms, parts of speech, rhyming words, and other devices.
Activities are all differentiated for three levels of learners. Devices used (but can be modified and changed) include: idiom, metaphor, personification, and simile. Additional devices covered are: hyperbole, onomatopoeia, and oxymoron.
Pages are in color and black and white for an ink-saving option.
