What educators are saying

This resource came in handy when I wanted to give my students additional practice with low prep! Absolutely loved it!
I used this resource as a preassessment for my 9th graders, and I found it helpful because the worksheets provided examples of figurative language in context.

Description

In this assessment pack of editable assessments for figurative language you will be able to "test the waters," and see how your students are comprehending figurative language. You are getting three different ways for students to practice and demonstrate their knowledge of figurative language. The terms included are idiom, metaphor, simile, personification, hyperbole, and pun. Some of the questions ask about mood, allusion, theme, and rhyme. The tests are designed to build on each other, but they could be used in isolation.

The three assessments are -

1) A 10 question terms and definitions matching test

2) A 15 question application test/worksheet where students match definitions and identify the figures of language in isolated sentences

3) A 10 question end-of-course style multiple choice test where students read two poems, analyze, and compare/contrast the poems for use of figures of speech in poetry. This test also has a few other poetry analysis type questions on it.

** All answers and common core standards are included. With this pack, you would easily be set to assess your unit from start to finish! All the prep work is done for you! Just print and go. 100% editable.
