Description

Figurative language notes can be interactive and fun! This figurative language foldable flipbook makes vocabulary memorable as it introduces (or reviews) six important figurative language terms - simile, metaphor, personification, hyperbole, idiom, and symbol. It's a perfect addition to a figurative language, writing, or poetry interactive notebook.

(Don't miss the rest of my bestselling Figurative Language Activities Bundle!)

Page 1 is a pre-assessment on which students are asked to match examples to the figurative language vocabulary words (provided in a word bank). I always give this before my figurative language unit; sometimes I'm surprised by what they already know or don't know! (Google Slides and Easel Assessment versions included)

Pages 2-4 are pieces of the flipbook foldable, and I've included easy-to-follow assembly instructions to help you put it together. The great thing about this flipbook is that it requires no cutting, gluing, or complex folding skills. You'll simply copy the pages as instructed, fold on the lines labeled "Fold Here," and slide one sheet inside the other! Students can totally handle putting this together themselves.

Above each figurative language term and definition, there are higher-level thinking questions about the word that will allow students to create their own examples, discuss author's purpose, and more. (Google Slides and Easel Activity slides also included - they just don't flip!)

I love this flipbook because it takes students from memorization to understanding, analysis, and even creating! They will definitely know their figurative language vocabulary after completing this foldable.

This resource includes the following digital versions:

  • Google Slides (flipbook pages and pre-assessment)
  • Easel Assessment (pre-assessment)
  • Easel Activity (flipbook pages)

It's time to move past memorizing and start REALLY understanding what things mean. Don't miss my Figurative Language Activities Bundle!
