Great Introduction to Figurative Language:
Need a simple and engaging way to introduce figurative language to your students? Look no further!

Embedded Music:
Each type of figurative language is defined, and song lyrics (along with actual musical clips of those lyrics) are embedded. There are two examples for each type. All examples have been clipped for appropriate lyrics.

• Figurative Language PROJECT with Popular Songs

Making Learning Relevant:
Students will practice identifying each type of FL, explaining their knowledge of how they identified each type of FL, and explain the figurative meaning of the text - ALL using popular song lyrics!!

Review Figurative Language:
Need a simple and engaging way to review figurative language? Look no further! This product includes 60 different examples of the different types of figurative language.

Game Mode:
You can simply ask students to name each type of figurative language, tell how they know it is that particular type, and explain the meaning of the text OR you can play Basketball Style!

For each question they answer correctly, students have the opportunity to make a basket for points (as noted in the questions). I always set up an unused container or clean class trashcan. Use a balled up sheet of paper or any time of small ball you may have. Create a free throw location (marked off in your classroom). Once answered correctly, teams of students can select a teammate to shoot for free throw points. You can adapt the game, as needed for your students! I hope you and your students enjoy it as much as our class has enjoyed this activity!

This assessment using song lyrics and one fictional passage to assess students' knowledge the different types of figurative language.

Popular Lyrics AND Text:
Song lyrics and one fictional passage is used to determine whether students can identify the types of figurative language, explain how they know that is the type, and explain the meaning of the figurative language.
