Description

Let students use imagination and creativity to show what they've learned! These fun figurative language writing prompts are the perfect way to wrap up a unit, review for a test, or add enrichment to your figurative language lessons. Nine engaging writing prompts encourage students to show comprehension and let their imaginations run as they write about animals, idioms, their own lives, and more.

(Don't miss the rest of my bestselling Figurative Language Activities Bundle!)

This resource includes the following digital versions:

  • Google Slides (link in PDF)
  • Easel Activity (link in My Purchases)

Students choose any three prompts in a row. The prompts challenge them to use metaphor, simile, personification, and symbolism in writing, evaluate the use of hyperbole and idioms, and think creatively about all types of figurative language while elaborating with facts they've learned as well as personal experiences. With nine imaginative writing choices, every student will find something fun to write about!

Use these engaging writing prompts as a cumulative assessment for a figurative language unit, a fun way to practice skills as you teach them, a test review, or even essay prompts! My students love thinking outside the box with these writing activities - and I always let them share their responses with the class!

There is a writing page included with space for three paragraph responses to provide structure for students who need it and encourage all students to follow directions.

It's time to move past memorizing and start REALLY understanding what things mean. Don't miss my Figurative Language Activities Bundle!
