The fifty-five word story is a fun project that challenges students to analyze the writing craft. The Prezi and other documents offered in this lesson will provide plenty of examples and helpful writing hints that will make this creative prompt even more enjoyable for you and your students.
Product Information:
1. Instructional Prezi--This seventeen-slide presentation begins by giving the word count for three famous stories. It then challenges them to write a story that includes all of the basic plot elements using only fifty-five words. Several examples are provided, and the Prezi concludes with rules and pointers for writing a fifty-five word story.
2. Story Mapping Worksheet--This editable file provides two more examples of fifty-five word stories. Each one is paired with a blank story map (also known as Freytag's Pyramid). Students can map out the parts of the story, and your class can identify parts of the plot that may be implied rather than explicitly stated.
3. Final Draft Sheet-- This editable file helps students and teachers easily count words by providing a fifty-five block chart. There is also space for a brief writer's reflection on the assignment and writing process.
