Description

This resource on Fictional Narratives was designed to teach students about this particular genre, and to walk them through the process of writing their first personal narrative. Digital pages are available for the student pages only. These can be used with Google Slides.

This unit is broken down into 19 lessons and should be used over about 4 weeks:

  • Lesson 2: Identifying Parts of a Narrative
  • Lesson 3: Brainstorming Narrative Ideas
  • Lesson 4: Prewriting: Characters
  • Lesson 5: Prewriting: Setting

  • Lesson 7: Prewriting: Sequence of Events
  • Lesson 8: Word Choice
  • Lesson 9: Show, Don’t Tell
  • Lesson 10: Using Transitions
  • Lesson 11: Dialogue
  • Lesson 12: Writing a Lead
  • Lesson 13: Writing a Strong Ending
  • Lessons 14 to 16: Rough Draft (Beginning, Middle, End)
  • Lesson 17: Revision Checklist
  • Lesson 18: Editing
  • Lesson 19: Final Draft

The lesson pages can be assigned individually from day-to-day, or they can be bound into a book, or stapled into a packet, for use throughout the unit.
