Description

Teaching students to analyze a character is crucial to their reading comprehension of fiction texts. These reading crafts are fresh, hands on and unique fiction activities for having students analyze a character. It is an alternative to reading response that will help you to reach all learners in your classroom.

These character analysis activities require little to no prep, and the only materials needed are scissors and glue (metal fasteners needed for the character wheel).

WHAT’S INCLUDED:

8 Character Analysis Crafts:

  • Character Wheel: Students record either 6 or 8 categories that describe their character (traits, actions, likes, dislikes, other character opinions, thoughts, etc) on their character wheel.
  • Character Analysis Lift the Flap: Students record words, thoughts, feelings, and actions in a life the flap crafts that visually breaks down these four categories. An option is also included for students to infer character traits based on what they have recorded in these four areas.
  • "In _____'s Shoes" Craft: This lift the flap craft has students lift up shoes to record information on their character. An inside graphic organizer or blank option are both included.
  • Top Secret Character File: Students use text evidence to create descriptions on magnifying glasses of their character. The magnifying glasses are placed into a pocket "character file". A full page or half page pocket are included, as well as larger or smaller magnifying glasses.
  • Character Selfie: Students draw a picture ("photo") of their character on the outside flap of the phone, and then describe the character's internal traits underneath the photo.
  • Internal & External Traits Lift the Flap: Students describe the characters' external traits on the front and then open up a character to describe their internal traits.
  • Internal & External Traits Photo Frame: Students draw a photo of their character on the photo frame, and then describe the character underneath..
  • Character Change Cycle Craft: This circle craft has students describe experiences in the story and how the character changes from them. Two options are included. One has butterfly life cycle clipart on the outside and the other is blank.
