Learning Objective
Students will use information from several sources to provide evidence that Earth events can occur quickly or slowly.
Description
Fast and Slow Changes on Earth Unit. This is a perfect resource for teaching about Earth Science and fast and slow changes to the Earth. Students will learn about fast changes like earthquakes and volcanoes and slow changes like weathering and erosion. Students will engineer a way to prevent a change to Earth like a mudslide. Aligned with Second Grade Science NGSS and Utah SEEd. ⛰ ❄️ ⚠️
This resource is designed to address NGSS Earth's Systems and Earth's Place in the Universe for 2nd-grade standards for NGSS 2-ESS1-1 and 2-ESS2-1. This resource is also aligned with CCSS for reading informational text.
Fast and Slow Changes Unit includes:
- two hands-on labs
- 5 pages of informational text
- response pages
- text-dependent questions
- lesson plans
- interactive notebook flaps
Teachers Love This Unit! ❤️❤️❤️
Tina ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ Extremely Satisfied
Low prep and easy to use with interesting passages. I was able to use quite a bit of it for a packet to send home when our school closed.
Jennifer ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ Extremely Satisfied
Outstanding resource. There are plenty of activities here, and they are really engaging. Each of the lessons included addressed the NGSS standards. This resource has labs, lesson plans, and many follow-up pages.
NGSS 2-ESS1-1. Use information from several sources to provide evidence that Earth events can occur quickly or slowly.
NGSS 2-ESS2-1. Compare multiple solutions designed to slow or prevent wind or water from changing the shape of the land.
Utah SEEd for 2nd grade:
Utah SEEd Standard 2.1.1 Construct an explanation about the cause and effect of changes in the Earth's surface that happen quickly or slowly. Emphasize the contrast between volcanic eruptions, flooding, and earthquakes that happen quickly to the slow erosion of rocks.
Standard 2.1.3 Design solutions to slow or prevent wind or water from changing the shape of the land. Define the problem by asking questions and gathering information, convey designs through sketches, drawings, or physical models, and compare and test designs. Examples of solutions could include retaining walls, dikes, windbreaks, shrubs, trees, and grass to hold back wind, water, and land.
