What educators are saying

Having limited curriculum and finding functional material that you can teach students once they graduate from high school is amazing. This is well laid ou.t
This is one of my favorite life skills units for my resource crew! Love the real life application and engagement level of the activities!

    Description

Are you looking for fun ways to teach your FCS and Life Skills students about kitchen safety and cooking? These kitchen crime scene and food mystery activities are no-prep and get students excited about cooking, recipes, and the kitchen while being sleuths in their FCS class!

These Food Mystery Activities are a fun way to help build a classroom community or learn from a distance by having students solve "food crime scenes".

With these family and consumer science lesson plans students will:

    • investigate "crimes" in the kitchen such as fire hazards and cross-contamination.
    • Create dishes with chopped mystery baskets and rate one another's creations.
    • Determine what recipe is shown with clues in a "what's the dish" activity.

These lessons review food safety, kitchen safety, recipe investigation, and 2 Chopped mystery baskets. There are 3 separate, no-prep activities for students to find clues in colorful scenes to solve food and kitchen mysteries that you can do in class or assign in Google Classroom.

What's Included in this FCS and foods mystery bundle:

    • 20 mystery basket scenes with worksheets for students to create a dish with the ingredients given. Score sheets are also included for peer reviews!
    • 6 kitchen scenes with the remains of ingredients and students find clues on the worksheets to discover what recipe was cooked. This activity is modeled after the television show "Kitchen Crime Scene".
    • 10 kitchen scenes with a kitchen hazard in each. Students use the clues worksheet to find what might have happened in the kitchen to create the "crime". They write a brief description of what happened in each scene.
    • 10 Kitchen scenes with food safety hazards in each. Students use the clues to identify cross-contamination, temperature problems and more in food preparation scenes.
    • Reading a Recipe Google digital escape room that has students moving through 8 clues while learning about how to read a recipe.
    • Baking Mystery Digital Escape Room with Google. Students move through 8 clues to crack the codes all about baking.
    • Food Safety Digital Escape Room- easily assign in Google and your students will crack codes while learning about important safety and sanitation procedures.
    • Nutrition Label Digital Escape Room- students will learn how to read food labels in a fun and engaging way by finding clues in this Google breakout room.
