How to Use
Partner poems can be used in a variety of ways and for various age/grade levels. These can be great reading fluency practice, as students can practice their parts over and over again. Here are some simple techniques for incorporating partner poems into your classroom:
- Make a packet of all the poems for use at a literacy center.
- Have several different literacy centers with one poem at each center.
- Make two copies of each poem. Pass them out randomly to the class. Have students find the partner that has their same poem.
- Have students switch parts once they have mastered reading one part.
- Have students use a rubric to rate themselves (or each other) on their reading fluency.
