Description
Use fall themed, cross-curricular resources to motivate learners in your middle school science classroom! This resource includes a claim, evidence, and argument text about simple machines. Also includes real graphing data to learn earth science topics, and digital interactive slides to think about fall facts and misconceptions. Resources support NGSS Physics and Earth Science standards. Also included are 6 autumn-themed slide templates (for use with Google Slides™) to bring fun and color to your lesson plans!
Science Resources:
The 9-page discussion card set includes:
- 2 sets of 16 discussion topics related to fall facts and the autumnal equinox. The cards are in pdf format and can be cut out and laminated.
- A Teacher's Key with a brief description of the correct answers for each discussion topic.
- A page of suggestions for how to use the discussion cards interactively.
Included in the claim, evidence, and argument reading resource are:
- A 2-paged fictional non-fiction newspaper article, written at three reading levels, about a pumpkin farmer whose large, prize pumpkin is stolen just before her punkin chunkin activity during the farm's fall festival. Was a simple machine used to steal the pumpkin?
- One pdf and one document for use with Google Docs™ of the 2-page claim, evidence, and argument graphic organizer for student use (either printed or editable)
- Two grading keys that show possible student answers
- A lesson and writing practice worksheet for citing text evidence
Included in the graphing activity resource are:
- A 4-page slide deck for use with Google Slides™ that includes:
- Basic geographic information about Wellington, NZ & Chicago, IL, USA
- 2-pages of sunlight and temperature data
- Graph dependent questions
- A link to a screencast that teaches students how to build the graphs in a spreadsheet.
- A spreadsheet for use with Google Sheets™ that can be used to build two graphs
- A pdf copy of the sunlight and temperature data for Wellington, NZ & Chicago IL, USA
Included in the Pear Deck™ resource:
- This 16 slide deck compatible with Google Slides™ deck uses the PearDeck™ add-on, which turns Google slide shows into an informal assessment. The theme of this PearDeck™ is weather and climate misconceptions. The 16 misconceptions are the same misconceptions represented in the discussion card deck that is available in this bundle, and would complement your weather and climate lessons.
