    Description

12 COMPLETE UNITS plus Introductory Activities to walk Secondary English students in Year 9 (Australia) or Year 10 (New Zealand) through a FULL YEAR HIGH SCHOOL ENGLISH PROGRAM of Novel Study, Text Response Essay, Creative Writing Unit, Wide Reading Unit, Oral Presentations (speeches), Advertising Study, Language of Songs, Film Study and Static Images Study.

A great YEAR LONG RESOURCES PACK for a new teacher or a high school teacher new to teaching at this level. Perfect for Year 9 or Year 10 English.

    Includes:

    • The ANY Novel Study unit includes character files, character development, writing techniques, and questions for comprehension.
    • The Tomorrow, When the War Began unit includes character files, character development, writing techniques, and questions for comprehension on the novel by John Marsden.
    • The Text Response Essay unit walks students through writing their first text response essay, and includes a break-down of essay structure, quoting, punctuation and planning.
    • The Oral Presentations unit helps kids prepare for, plan, write and present a speech.
    • The Wide Reading unit guides them through a mostly self-run reading unit.
    • The Creative Writing unit helps students assess good creative writing and guides them through writing a story of their own about life-changing choices.
    • The Advertising unit which focuses on messages in the media and how advertising contains a variety appeals and techniques to persuade us. (Note: this has a bit of crossover with the Static Images unit, which you may see as an advantage or a disadvantage, so I will include a further unit on Songs for variety.)
      OR
    • The Language of Songs unit which has students look at language patterns in a range of music in order to find language techniques used to position readers, and then they complete an individual inquiry-based research task.
    • The Film Study unit on The Count of Monte Cristo which involves in-depth analysis of film techniques.
    • The ANY Film Study unit which involves in-depth analysis of film techniques.
    • The Film Essay Writing unit which walks students through their first technical film essay, using a similar scaffold to text response essay writing done earlier.
    • Static Images unit completing analysis of still / static images and looking at visual and verbal techniques before asking students to complete their own.

This set of resources is perfect for a high school English class in any country, and great for helping students understand and write about texts, comprehend and complete analysis of ideas, and communicate with ease in speaking and writing.

This bundle is perfect for English classes at Year 9 or 10 secondary level in Australia & New Zealand. I have taught in both countries and used the same essay-writing system with great success. Particularly for students of approximately 13-15 years of age: New Zealand Year 9 or 10 or Non-NCEA Year 11 students, Australian Year 8 or 9 or low Year 10 students, and UK Key Stage 3 students. This product has British English spelling throughout, although I try hard to avoid words that vary.
