This file includes 22 Word of the Day worksheets for the month of January with most of the words relating to winter and two words related to the New Year. These worksheets are great for French Word Work or bell work.

The words included in this file are: janvier, une planche à neige, le brouillard, le hockey, minuit, un chasse-neige, frissonner, une pelle à neige, une résolution, la grippe, une raquette, construire, un thermomètre, des chaussettes, une ceinture fléchée, un carnaval d'hiver, une structure, fondre, un pingouin, une paire de ski, glissant et blanche.

Here are just a few examples of questions students will answer with relation to each word:

• definition of the word
• find a synonym/antonym
• what part of speech does the word belong to
• use the word in a sentence (affirmative, exclamative ou interrogative)
• find a word that rhymes
• how many syllables are there in the word
• find a few words that end with the same sound or syllable
• Using the dictionary, what word can be found before and after the word of the day
• students may be asked to answer a question that uses the word of the day

This file can either be used over the course of the month (one word a day for one month), or on an as need basis. You can also use this activity in your Literacy Centers.
