Description

Introduce and practice the _and word base with technology! Here’s a great activity for reading and phonics instruction for Kindergarten, first grade or second grade! Word families use onset and rime (beginning consonants and word bases) to help young readers apply knowledge of phoneme-grapheme correspondence to sound out words. Use the power of PowerPoint to take advantage of the timed animation features to make the letters appear automatically to support students in sounding out words.

This is perfect for use with a Smart Board, Activboard, or other interactive whiteboard. It can be used without that technology as long as you have PowerPoint and a computer. PLEASE NOTE: The trigger animation used to make this PowerPoint respond to touch is NOT compatible with Mac versions of PowerPoint but you can click your mouse to view the animation.

This PowerPoint includes the following words:

_and: band. hand, land, sand, stand

This PowerPoint contains 16 slides. Slide 2 emphasizes auditory practice of phonics with the recognition of rhyming words using pictures. Slides 3 and 4 connect phonemes with corresponding graphemes for the word family. Slides 6 to 10 give practice with applying knowledge of phoneme-grapheme correspondence to sound out words using timed animation for support. Slide 11 gives practice sounding out words without the support of the timed animation. The remaining slides include the title, directions, and teacher notes. The font for all presentations is Century Gothic in blue.
