Description

If you’re a teacher, having a substitute at some point in the year is going to happen. PD, collaboration time, IEPs, illness, jury duty – at some point in the school year you are going to be out of class. Nothing drives me crazier than returning to class and feeling like the day was an absolute waste because I have no idea what happened while I was gone. No note, no review, just a cryptic, “It was a pleasure to sub for your class.”

The main things I always want to know from my subs when I return are:

  • Did you cover my lesson plan (the one I spent way too much time writing out in detail)?
  • Did my students struggle with any part if the lesson (a fresh set of eyes is always telling)?
  • Were there any outstanding student helpers (who gets my unfettered gratitude and praise)?
  • Were there any behavior problems (who gets a whole other level of undivided attention)?

To avoid any frustration or questions, I always leave a Substitute Report form (one for every class) along with my lessons plans when I am out. My Substitute Report is just a simple check off sheet that lets me know if my lesson plans were followed, how the overall class behaved, what areas the students had difficulty in, who were my shining stars, etc.

This simple one-page report offers me such peace of mind because it lets the substitute know exactly what I need to know about how the day went.

To make your sub days easier, I am sharing this EDITABLE gem with you for FREE!
