Center: 12 colorful photos of things that are familiar to the children, and are usually either very fast, or very slow. The children can sort them onto 2 labeled category mats. Print on cardstock and laminate if desired.
Worksheets: The children cut and paste b/w pictures, similar to those in the center, into the 2 categories of fast and slow on each worksheet. If a child has a logical explanation for placing a picture in a category, then it is “correct”.
Other activities: The picture cards are big enough to use as flash cards in a small group session, discussing the concepts and vocabulary of fast and slow. Also, comparisons can be made by holding up 2 of the pictures, and asking which is probably faster, and probably slower. Explain that you are thinking how the objects would be/exist “in real life”, to help the children transfer the idea of the picture to something they have experienced previously.
