Subject/Level: Italian, Level 1

Unit: Family

Prior Learning: Students are familiar with describing others, expressing the preferences of others, family relationships and possessive adjectives.

Assessment Objectives: Students will demonstrate the ability to:

1. describe family members

2. express the personal preferences and interests of family members

3. plan and structure a presentation by setting goals and maintaining organization

4. verbally present information to others

Standards: Communication

L1: Demonstrate command of conventions and grammar when writing and speaking.

L2: Demonstrate command of conventions of capitalization, punctuation, and spelling when writing.

L5: Demonstrate understanding of figurative expression, word relationships, and nuances in language.

W2: Write a sequential, organized text to inform.

W4: Present information clearly demonstrating consideration of perspective, purpose, and audience.

W5: Develop and strengthen writing through planning, revising, editing, rewriting or trying a new approach.

W6: Use a variety of media to produce and publish writing and to interact and collaborate with others.

W10: Write frequently on a variety of topics for a variety of purposes.

SL1: Participate effectively in a range of conversations demonstrating the ability to understand the ideas of others and clearly express your own.

Materials Used: project description and instructions, rough draft graphic organizers, grading rubrics, peer observation forms, student computers

Assessment Overview:

1. Students prepare a Slideshow presentation of their families, including a written script and visual aids.

2. Students present projects formally in front of an audience.*

3. Two rubrics and project options have been provided: one for verbal and one for written presentations.
