Description

Get kids excited about math with this fun hands-on collaborative project. Typically done during a Family Math Night event, this project can also be done in the classroom. The best part is, each person is individually represented in the final product!

Participants will create buildings with a particular number of windows arranged in rectangular arrays. The building will then be added to a collaborative skyline. This activity will reinforce concepts in number such as counting, addition, subtraction, multiplication, writing equations, the array model of multiplication and the distributive property.

Included in the lesson plan:

• list of materials needed

• mathematical background

• mathematical vocabulary

• Number Skyline Collaborative Project table tent

• Number Skyline Activity Sheets for the beginning, intermediate, and advanced levels

• Beginning, Intermediate, and Advanced table tents

• link to the video version of the lesson
