What educators are saying

This is such a cool way to help students with description in their writing! I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for reinforcement in this area with their class.
I absolutely LOVED this resource! It was great having the example and also having an option for them to have a notebook example. This really engaged my students into thinking about how to add sensory details to their stories.

Description

This "Explode the Moment" Writing Strategy Pack includes a writing poster, anchor chart, student notebook sheets, graphic organizers, and an "Explode the Moment" bulletin board display with "explosion" final copy writing paper.

Teaching "Explode the Moment" is a visual strategy that forces students to step away from telling about the large picture of an experience and hone in on just one moment from it. This allows writers to create much more vivid details for their readers.

1. Explode the Moment Poster or Anchor Chart:

This poster has a student-friendly definition and example of “Explode the Moment” Writing. It comes as a regular poster or as an anchor chart (2 pages) for you to cut and paste each part as you go through it with your students. The blank boxes allow flexibility for you to put your own information in there if you do not want to use the pre-made cut-outs. These also come in a half-page size for student writing notebooks.

(Note: This comes from my Writing Strategies Posters and Anchor Charts Pack)

2. Explode the Moment Graphic Organizers (3):

One organizer breaks apart the moment into setting, characters, thoughts, feelings, etc. Then, students can practice either exploding 1 moment or 3 smaller moments.

(Note: This comes from my Writing Strategies Graphic Organizers Pack)

3. Final Copy Writing Paper & Bulletin Board Letters:

The final copy paper is a visual template of a moment exploding. They make a great bulletin board display. I like to give the students an option of yellow, orange, or red paper to make the bulletin board even more colorful. Included are full page and half page size options, along with a blank, lined, or lined with a place for a picture. These templates, as well as bulletin board letters can also be printed to the % size you need (smaller or larger) in order to fit your bulletin board.
