Description
Help students identify and respond positively to expected vs. unexpected behaviours as part of your culturally responsive classroom. Each lesson takes 5 minutes or less to prepare and each comes with a variety of activities that help students understand why unexpected behaviours happen while you create classroom norms instead of classroom rules.
This unit is part of our Year Long Bundle which includes all our health and wellness units for grades four through six at a discount.
This engaging unit includes:
- complete lesson plans with modifications for differentiation.
- a Google Slides version for the majority of the activities. A few activities are hands-on. To access the digital version, download the PDF and click the link in the file.
- answer keys and suggested answers.
- student-appropriate scenarios for role-playing and discussions.
- variety of activities including group work, writing, colouring, and collaborating.
- background information for teachers.
- student worksheets (in Canadian/British and American spellings).
- activities that work for back-to-school, but can be used any time of year.
This is a great unit to begin the school year off with as you can use it to set the tone for interactions between students and your classroom expectations. We worked with a pediatric mental health nurse to find the right balance of learning for students. It has been classroom tested with fourth and fifth graders several times and they love the role-playing.
