Étude de mots - activités de classe, centre, 4 coins ou autres. FR Word Study
Description
Looking for a way to incorporate spelling, vocabulary, phonology, etc. into a daily practice in FRENCH?
In this resource of 172 word work activities, you can help improve students' vocabulary, recognition of spelling patterns, as well as use it as a launch pad to incorporating story writing, grammatical concept review, etc.
This resource was created with French second language learners in grades 3-5 in mind. In designing this, there was thought about how it could be used in the context of full group instruction and as task cards at literacy centres. It could also be your bellwork activity as students begin the class and get their 'minds on'.
Using a resource to come up with a basic word list beginning with simple orthographic spelling, to double consonants, silent letters, and different sound patterns, this resource can be used in this order, or you can search for a word that fits your theme or unit of study if you are trying to make it cross-curricular.
The majority of the word work includes the practice of thinking about defining a word, identifying its characteristics and coming up with examples and non-examples. There is evidence to suggest that this type of word study helps create pathways in the brain to encourage retention to and recall from memory.
Other activities include placing words in alphabetical order, identifying the right definition, highlighting from a list the words that _____, classifying by number of syllables, finding rhyming words, identifying which words are infinitive verbs, etc.
If printing out as task cards, remember to select print with 4 per page to have proper sizing.
Fun Fact - if you do one word per day, 172 days would get you into May!
