Description
Maths Talk Routines are a specific type of mathematical conversation;
- The reference to ‘routines’ emphasises their common structure and intended regularity; and
- While there are different types of Maths Talks, they share a basic format.
Maths Talks provide students with opportunities to:
- Notice structure, patterns and relationships;
- Clarify their own thinking;
- Test strategies to see if they are mathematically logical;
- Build a repertoire of efficient strategies;
- Investigate and apply mathematical relationships;
- Develop their repertoire and use of mathematical language; and
- Discover and develop generalisations.
