- PDF
What educators are saying
Description
Teach your students how to write a solid introduction paragraph with an engaging hook and a clear thesis statement!
With the help of this unit, your students will learn:
- How to analyze a prompt in order to understand what they are supposed to write about
- How to capture the reader’s attention through a variety of hooks
- How to write on-point thesis statements that lay the foundation for the body of the essay
- How to logically connect a hook with a thesis statement to create a smooth transition
Well begun is half done, and this could not be truer than in writing. An introduction paragraph destines the rest of the essay either for success or failure! What is more, in the times of prevalent testing and on-demand writing, knowing how to quickly and effectively start an essay is a critical skill. Unfortunately, many students struggle with it. Too many times I witnessed kids fall apart during a state writing test. They wasted precious time on wondering how to respond to a prompt and how to start their essay. Even worse, some students stared blankly at the computer screen, then they fell into despair saying “I do not know what I am supposed to write about!”
To prevent that scenario from ever happening again, I came up with this unit. It contains classroom-tested lesson plans and ideas that proved incredibly successful with my students. In the unit you will find:
- 2-weeks’ worth of detailed step-by-step lesson plans
- 26 SCAFFOLDED and MEANINGFUL practice worksheets
- a ton of examples of introductory paragraphs
- the answer key

Note: Writing comes easily only to a fraction of students. Therefore, this unit specifically targets weaker writers. It gives them a writing formula that they can hang on to like a life line during timed writing assignment. You will notice, however, that Your higher students will also benefit from this unit. The unit will provide them with writing tools that they can expand and add on to, according to their skill level.
