Description
Few students take the time (or know how) to truly revise their essays. Editing checklists are helpful for some students, but are overwhelming for others. Break down the work and model the process with this interactive editing checklist and card set!
This kit helps students learn how to become independent editors, rereading drafts multiple times for specific elements to authentically practice the revision process.
• Visual learners can use the traditional editing checklist to complete each task and check them off one by one.
• Tactile learners benefit from the cards because they help the student focus on one item at a time to independently prioritize or separate what they have done and what they still need to do.
These task cards work for informative OR persuasive essays. The prompts are rigorous and vary in tasks and independent/collaborative revision. Pick and choose which ones apply to your current assignment, and customize a deck that you want students to complete. (Using the blank template pages, students could also be asked to make their own, based on their individual habits or needs!)
These colorful task cards cover seven categories that fall in the revision process: Editing, Revising, Feedback, Formatting, Strategies, Research, and “Challenge”. The Challenge cards are great for students who are further ahead or think they’re “done”.
This download includes a TOTAL of 23 sheets (96 cards):
• Editing Checklist, which includes ALL of the 54 prompts that are also on cards
• List of 25 ways to use the cards in a secondary ELA classroom
• Collaborative Revision Activity: A two-page activity in which students give AND receive rough draft feedback with peers and adults!
• Editable Task Cards: 16 sheets (54 unique cards) contain prompts and are ready to print, copy and cut out. Laminate them into class sets that stay in your room, or give students their own individual sets.
• Blank Set: Each template has been provided so that you can add in your own editing tasks specific to your class, ability level, or assignment! There are 7 pages (42 cards) of editable templates.
• PDF Copy: A ready-to-print PDF copy of the task cards is also included (to prevent formatting issues between our computers)
