What educators are saying

Resource was aligned with VA SOL: The student will be given a model and write the decimal and fraction equivalents. My students loved this interactive resource to practice their decimal number sense.
This was a great activity for my students because it gave them a challenge and the practice they needed to convert decimals and fractions.

Description

I love using sorts to reinforce math concepts! This sorting activity is a great hands-on way for students to practice identifying equivalent decimals and fractions. Use this as a pre-assessment, classwork/homework assignment, review activity, or even an assessment! This is perfect for students to use at math stations!

This activity includes printable and digital versions, so you can use in the classroom or for distance learning!

This resource includes:

  • 12 color sorting cards
  • 12 printer-friendly sorting cards (same examples)
  • student worksheet to glue cards on
  • answer key
  • digital version ready to use in Google Slides™

This resource supports Virginia Math SOL 4.3, but works with any curriculum.

Standards

Recognize and generate simple equivalent fractions, (e.g., 1/2 = 2/4, 4/6 = 2/3). Explain why the fractions are equivalent, e.g., by using a visual fraction model.
Use decimal notation for fractions with denominators 10 or 100. For example, rewrite 0.62 as 62/100; describe a length as 0.62 meters; locate 0.62 on a number line diagram.
