Description

Help students understanding balancing equations with this no-prep animated slideshow.

The PowerPoint introduces students to a scale to visualize keeping equations balanced. Animations remove items from the scale to correspond with solving the equation. Problems progress in difficulty to include variables on both sides. 10 practice equations are included at the end.

Equations include distributing, fraction coefficients, negatives, no solution, and infinitely many solutions.

This lesson works well with mini white boards. It can be uploaded and used in Google Slides as well.

Solve linear equations in one variable.
Give examples of linear equations in one variable with one solution, infinitely many solutions, or no solutions. Show which of these possibilities is the case by successively transforming the given equation into simpler forms, until an equivalent equation of the form 𝘹 = 𝘢, 𝘢 = 𝘢, or 𝘢 = 𝘣 results (where 𝘢 and 𝘣 are different numbers).
Solve linear equations with rational number coefficients, including equations whose solutions require expanding expressions using the distributive property and collecting like terms.
