What educators are saying

I have just started Homeschooling my two 9th grade girls. These make a great addition to the curriculum I am creating.
Great way to do an assessment that isn't a test. I really prefer projects, especially for this topic

    Description

This bundle includes six environmental science research projects which will keep 7th-10th grade students engaged with the material. Student handouts, research tables, and rubrics are included to provide your students with clear expectations. This is a sanity-saver for any environmental science teacher!

    The projects included are:

    1) Marine Magazine Research Project-Students will research a marine species of their choice, and write a magazine "for" that species! This is a great way to reinforce environmental threats, ocean ecosystems, and marine biology.

    2) Pros/Cons Research Worksheets-Eleven research worksheets will help students organize points in support and opposition of various environmental strategies. The topics include agricultural practices, waste management, fossil fuels, conventional alternatives to fossil fuels, renewable energy, city planning, transportation, eco-economics, environmental policy, population growth, and soil science.

    3) Vermicomposting Project-Students will work in groups to create their own worm bins for composting! This ties in perfectly with discussions of soil science and agriculture, and the students love caring for their wigglers!

    4) IUCN Research Paper-After researching a species on the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List, students will write a 5-paragraph essay describing the benefits their species provides to the ecosystem, the threats to their species, and conservation efforts and laws protecting their species.

    5) Urban Planning Project-Students will choose a city to research, and answer questions about its zoning, transportation options, environmental threats, and sustainability initiatives.

    6) Energy Saving House-In order to review the difference between energy efficiency and energy conservation, students will design houses (on paper, digitally, or with found materials) that include energy saving initiatives. This is a great project for students studying climate change and fossil fuels.
