Description

This activity also works well for distance learning!

What do young teenagers and adults love more than reading an awesome short story in English Class? Instagram!

This is the perfect resource to throw into any unit when you need a quick, no-prep, and creative activity. In this activity, students will use this Instagram template to further analyze a narrator or character in a story.

When I use this in my class, I will let students pick their favorite character from our story to then create their post from this character's perspective. Students can draw any image that embodies the character they chose or an aspect of their life that they find to be interesting or important. Students then create a caption from the character's perspective explaining the picture and using a quote from the text.

My favorite thing to do when each student is complete is have them lay their Instagram posts face up on their desks and walk around to look at others in a gallery walk fashion. Here's the catch: students must choose 3 peers' templates to physically write/respond on from the perspective of the character THEY chose to embody. This serves as the "commenting" portion of the Instagram template. It's also a great discussion piece! This resource is also provided digitally for easy assigning on Google Classroom.

Note: If you use this digitally with students, you can adapt the drawing portion of the Instagram picture to having students find a photo on the Internet that best relates to the character.
