Get your students up and moving with this Write the Room activity! This activity challenges students to decode & encode picture cards based on phonics patterns. Students will look at a picture card and write the word that matches the picture on their recording sheets. Sound lines are added to each pictures to give students a visual of how many sounds are in the picture. Vowels/vowel teams are marked with a red line. Digraphs are marked with a longer black line. This can be done during centers/independent work time or as a whole group activity. The picture cards can also be used for board writing activities during small, or large group instruction time.
Teachers:
-Simply print, laminate, and place all picture cards around the classroom.
-To make this activity as independent as possible, preview the picture cards with your students before posting them around your classroom.
Students:
-Get those detective eyes ready and search for all the picture cards!
-Once you find a picture card, match the number on the card to the number on your recording sheet and write the word down.
-Once you have found ALL of the picture cards, circle three words and use them each in a sentence on the sentence lines
