End of the Year STEM Activity: Egg Drop Challenge

Do you need a super engaging, ready-to-go lesson for your science class?
The Great EGG-scape STEM Activity is perfect for busy teachers that desire to place the learning in the students' hands! This activity is perfect because there are no special materials to buy (other than eggs). You can use regular classroom materials to engage your students in this student directed activity that they are sure to love.

Challenge:
Henry and Bonita Eggstair have just opened a Skydiving Expedition business and they are looking for an engineer to design a vehicle that people can use as they jump from the Eggstair’s personal airplane. Of course, the safety of the customer is top priority, so the Eggstairs are looking for a top-notch design for their product. Can you help by designing and testing a prototype that will safely transport a raw egg to the ground without cracking? If they choose your design, it will be sent for a patent and you will paid money for your design.

STEM in the classroom is a truly AMAZING site to behold! I have never given my students a STEM challenge that they were not 100% engaged in- making it my GO-TO project for:

✅The day before a holiday
✅Teaching the Scientific Method
✅End of the Year (when testing is over)
✅Just when I (as the teacher) need a break

✅It’s student directed- the students have to rely on one another to meet a goal or
challenge, so the teacher is just a facilitator and not just a “talking head.”
✅It’s engaging! My students LOVE a challenge, especially when the challenge consists of a competition. I encourage you to incorporate a little competition into your
STEM challenges for more engagement!
✅It’s versatile- You can easily modify STEM challenges for ANY age group or content area. You can also modify supplies based on what you have.
✅It prepares students for the REAL WORLD- we do not do enough of this in education, so any time you can teach students how to solve problems, it’s a WIN WIN!
