⭐Preparation⭐
- Print the student pages, staple or place them in a folder, and your students are set to go.
- Have the video hook ready for viewing at the start of the lesson on an IWB, iPad, or computer monitor screen.
- Digital option: Make digital copies of the Google Slides before assigning to Google Classroom
- Editable suspects list included: This enables you to change the suspect names and alter the mystery outcome. Two alternative pre-made lists are also included for a quick swap out.
Distance Learning Update: The worksheets are also provided digitally on Google Slides.
⭐MATH SKILLS COVERED⭐
There are five clues to crack to solve the mystery:
- Clue 1: Add, Subtract, Multiply and Divide (A mix of questions involving 1 and 2-digit numbers)
- Clue 2: Perimeter – Find the missing side length (options provided for both imperial and metric units of measurement)
- Clue 3: Reducing Fractions to Lowest Terms (I've added a separate Clue 3 page that contains place value skills instead. If you wish to use this, swap this page with the original clue 3 page.)
- Clue 4: Time Patterns (fill in the missing time)
- Clue 5: Addition Standard Algorithms (With mainly 3-digit numbers)

Great End of Year math activity.
How long will this activity take?
Time to complete will vary anywhere between 30mins - 2 hours or more! It mainly depends on how familiar your students are with the math mystery format and how difficult they find math skills covered in the particular mystery. Please check the math skills outlined in the clues above to help determine suitability for your class. I highly recommend pacing this activity by giving students one clue at a time. Once the whole class has completed a clue, then move on to the next clue, either within the same lesson or the next math session. New math content presented? Make a lesson out of it by modeling the math before diving into the clue. I like to say, "We must learn something new before attempting the next clue." There are lots of ways to implement this activity in your classroom.
